How to ban a contact

Remove a contact from your program if you spot self-referrals or other suspicious activity.

Overview

If you've determined that a contact does not meet the criteria to participate in the program or you've spotted activity like a self-referral, you can ban the contact from the program.

Here's what banning does:

  • The advocate can't take part in any of your current or future campaigns.
  • Their referral links stop working.
  • No new rewards will be created for them.
  • Any past rewards stay put, so you can still approve and fulfill them if you decide to.

Tip: Ambassador 3's fraud detection automatically flags suspicious contacts and rewards, so you can review them before any rewards are approved.

How to ban an advocate

  1. In the left navigation, go to Audience → Contacts.
  2. Use the search bar at the top of the table to find the advocate by email address.
  3. Check the box next to the advocate's row. A menu of bulk actions will appear.
  4. Choose Update Status, then follow the prompts to select Banned.
  5. Pick whether to send the advocate a notification email.
  6. Review your choices and confirm to ban the advocate.

That's it. Their status changes to Banned right away.

Tip: Need to ban more than one advocate? Check the box next to each one and update them all at once. Another option is to add them to a segment, then filter for that segment and select all to ban.

Where to find banned contacts

On the Contacts table, filter by the Banned status. You'll see everyone who's been banned from your program.

Good to know

  • Banning doesn't delete the contact. Their record and history stay in Ambassador, so you can still look back at their activity.
  • If a banned advocate has rewards waiting, look them over in the Reward Transactions table before you approve or reject them.
