How to Use Visitor Click Data
Visitor Click Data gives you a window into the very first step of your referral journey — the moment someone clicks a referral link. This article walks through practical ways to put that data to work so you can validate your program, understand your audience, and make smarter decisions about your advocate strategy.
Validate Traffic Quality
Use visitor clicks to confirm that traffic is coming from real people — not automated bots.
What to check:
- Visitor source — Is traffic coming from social platforms, search, or copy/paste? Organic sources are a healthy sign.
- User agent — Are clicks coming from real devices, or do you see known crawler types?
- Click timing and volume patterns — A sudden spike from a single advocate in a short window can be a flag worth investigating.
Spot-checking clicks as they come in can quickly build confidence in program activity and help you catch anything unusual early.
Identify High-Impact Advocates
The Referrer Email field shows exactly which advocates are generating clicks.
Use this to:
- Identify advocates with strong reach or influence in their networks
- Learn what high-performing advocates are doing differently (channel, messaging, timing)
- Share best practices across your advocate base or offer targeted incentives to keep top performers engaged
Advocates who generate the most clicks often drive the most downstream value — conversions, orders, and rewards.
Understand Where Your Audience Engages
Visitor Source and Source URL reveal where your referral traffic is actually coming from.
This helps you:
- Tailor shareable content and assets to the platforms where advocates are most active
- Focus your enablement materials on the right channels
- Adjust your overall channel strategy based on real engagement data — not assumptions
Analyze Geographic Reach
Location data (country, region, city) shows where your visitors are located when they click.
Use this to:
- Confirm that traffic aligns with your service area or target market
- Identify unexpected regional interest that might signal an expansion opportunity
- Inform localization or language decisions if you see consistent traffic from a specific region
Export Click Data for Deeper Analysis
Many teams export visitor click data to go beyond what's visible in the table view.
Exports are great for:
- Building charts and visualizing trends over time
- Combining click data with your CRM or BI tools for a fuller picture
- Sharing insights with marketing or leadership teams in a format they can work with
To export, go to Audience Activity > Visitors and use the export option in the table.
Good to Know
- Clicks are an early indicator — they happen before referral attribution or an order is created. A large gap between clicks and attributions might indicate friction in your conversion flow (e.g., a form that's hard to find, or a landing page that isn't converting).
- This data is most powerful when paired with your Attribution and Orders views. Together, they tell the full story of your referral funnel.
