Whether you're running it alongside your referral program or as a stand-alone initiative, Loyalty helps you reward the behaviors that matter most to your business and build relationships that last. 🌟

Why Loyalty?

Here's a stat worth keeping in mind: it costs five times more to acquire a new customer than to retain an existing one. Loyalty programs help you flip that equation in your favor.

At its core, Loyalty is about increasing the lifetime value of your existing customers — encouraging repeat purchases, rewarding engagement, and deepening the relationship between your brand and the people who love it most.

LTV = Average Purchase Value × Purchase Frequency × Customer Lifespan

Beyond the direct revenue impact, a well-designed loyalty program is also a great way to collect zero-party data, grow your opt-in list, clear excess inventory, build your organic social presence, maintain GDPR compliance, and so much more. The possibilities really do depend on how creative you want to get. 🎨


The Advocate Portal

When you enable Loyalty, your enrolled advocates get access to their own personal Advocate Portal — a mobile-friendly web app that's completely customizable to match your brand. From their portal, advocates can:

  • Track their points balance and reward activity
  • Monitor their progress through loyalty tiers
  • Earn and view their badges
  • Complete tasks to earn additional rewards
  • Redeem points for rewards of their choice
  • Access their referral link and sharing tools

Think of it as your advocates' home base — a space that keeps them engaged, informed, and excited about your program. 🏠


Loyalty Widgets

Want to bring the loyalty experience directly to your website or app? Loyalty Widgets let you embed key program elements — like points balances, tier progress, and reward redemption — right where your customers already are. No portal login required.

Head to Pages & Widgets in the navigation to browse widget templates and customize them to fit your brand.


Tasks 🎯

Tasks give your advocates clear, rewarding actions to take that support your brand's goals. They show up right in the Advocate Portal as easy-to-complete activities — think of them as friendly nudges that keep advocates engaged.

Tasks are great for things like completing a user profile, subscribing to a newsletter, opting in to SMS, participating in a survey, or sharing a referral link. You set them up, and Automations handle the rest — issuing points, sending confirmation emails, or alerting your team when someone completes one.


Badges 🏅

Badges are your loyalty program's way of celebrating advocates and making participation feel rewarding beyond just the points. They're a gamification tool that motivates positive behavior and recognizes milestones.

Badges can be earned by completing tasks, hitting purchase milestones, logging in consistently, or any other behavior you want to recognize. They may or may not have a points value attached — sometimes the recognition alone is the reward! Set them up in Loyalty → Badges and use Automations to issue them automatically.


Points & Tiers

Points Tracker Advocates can see their full points history right in their portal — how many they've earned, how many they've spent, and what's available to redeem. Clear, simple, and satisfying to watch grow. 📈

Tiers Tiers add a layer of healthy competition and aspiration to your program. Set up as many levels as you like — each with its own name, perks, and requirements — and let advocates see exactly how close they are to the next level. Configure your tiers in Loyalty → Tiers and use Automations to move contacts between tiers and personalize their rewards experience as they level up.


Reward Redemption

When it's time to cash in, your advocates have options! The Reward Catalog is where you configure everything available for redemption. You can offer:

  • Tango Gift Cards — With our direct Tango integration, you can enable 200+ digital gift cards and prepaid cards from top merchants. When an advocate redeems, they'll receive an email with their gift card ready to use right away. 🎁
  • Custom Rewards — Swag, event access, exclusive products, account credits — anything your team can fulfill
  • Coupon Codes — Discount codes, free shipping, or other in-store offers
  • PayPal/Venmo — Direct cash payouts to your advocates
  • Shopify Gift Cards — Store credit for your Shopify customers

Reward Fulfillment Options

Ambassador 3 gives you flexible options for how advocates receive their rewards:

Portal Rewards Advocates log in to their Advocate Portal and choose their preferred reward from your catalog. No deduction from your budget happens until they actually redeem — which means less waste and more control. 💰

Storefront Rewards Don't want to require a portal login? Storefront is your answer. When a reward is fulfilled, Ambassador generates a unique personal redemption link for that advocate. They can click it anytime to redeem their available balance — no account required. Rewards stack up over time and can be redeemed all at once or gradually. It's flexible for your advocates and budget-friendly for you.


Non-Task Based Rewards

Not every reward needs to be earned through an action. You can use Automations to trigger rewards based on data points in a contact's profile — like a birthday surprise, an anniversary gift, or a milestone reward for their tenth purchase. Customers don't need to do anything to receive these — they just show up as a delightful moment from your brand. 🎂


Automations — Your Loyalty Engine 🔧

In Ambassador 3, Automations replace the old Rule Builder and give you much more flexibility and power. Think of Automations as your loyalty program's engine — they handle all the behind-the-scenes logic automatically so you don't have to.

Each Automation has three parts:

Trigger What kicks the automation off — like a contact making a purchase, completing a task, reaching a milestone, or hitting a specific date.

Conditions (optional) Filters that narrow down when the automation should run — like only rewarding purchases over a certain value, or only issuing a badge after a specific number of logins.

Outcomes What happens when the trigger fires — like issuing points, sending an email, awarding a badge, updating a journey stage, or sending a webhook to your system.

You can start from a pre-built template or create your own from scratch. Head to Campaigns & Automations → Automations to get started.


Common Loyalty Scenarios

Here are some ideas to get your creativity flowing 💡:

Reward purchases when:

  • A customer buys a specific product or product category
  • An order meets a minimum value or item count
  • It's a customer's birthday, anniversary, or other significant date

Reward participation when:

  • A customer completes a task like a survey, newsletter signup, or event registration
  • A customer hits a milestone like their tenth purchase or a new loyalty tier
  • A customer logs in consistently or refers a friend

Reward with:

  • Points redeemable for Tango gift cards, custom items, or PayPal/Venmo cash
  • Discount codes or free shipping vouchers
  • Badges for recognition and gamification

When a reward triggers, automatically:

  • Add points to their balance
  • Send an email notification so they know what they earned
  • Award a badge to their profile
  • Send a webhook to your system for custom fulfillment

Good to Know 💡

  • Loyalty features are available across all program types — you don't need a separate program to use tiers, badges, and tasks alongside your referral campaigns.
  • The points label is customizable — call them "coins," "stars," "swag points," or whatever fits your brand. Set this in Rewards & Payments → Payment Settings.
  • You control how many points equal one dollar for redemption purposes — configure this in Payment Settings before you launch.
  • Storefront Rewards is a great alternative to Portal Rewards if your advocates are less likely to create and manage a portal account.
