Overview of Domains in Ambassador

An overview of the subdomain types you can configure to brand the URLs your advocates see.

Overview

Ambassador lets you configure custom subdomains using your own company domain, so the URLs your advocates see feel like yours rather than ours. A branded link like rewards.companydomain.com builds trust, improves click-through, and keeps your program looking cohesive from end to end. ✨

Here's a quick look at what you can set up:

Subdomain type

Snippet Domain (v3)

Storefront Domain

Email Domain and Outgoing Email Address

Required.

To give your emails the best shot at landing in the inbox, you'll need at least one default email sending domain, plus an outgoing name and email address that uses it.

This authenticates your emails with email service providers, which helps deliverability. It also reassures recipients that the message really came from your company and isn't a spoof.

You can use one email domain across every program and campaign, or set up different versions for different needs, like separate brands.

Example email domain: companydomain.com or loyalty.companydomain.com
Example outgoing name and address: Company Loyalty Program <loyalty@companydomain.com>

Advocate Portal Domain

Required if you're giving advocates access to the Advocate Portal.

If your program participants will log in to the Ambassador-hosted Advocate Portal, you'll need a custom Portal domain to brand the URL they use.

Example: portal.companydomain.com

Share Link Domain

Required.

Share Links, sometimes called referral links, are URLs with a unique code on the end called a shortcode. When you enable share links in a campaign's landing page selection, Ambassador automatically generates a unique link for each landing page as advocates enroll.

Advocates share those links with friends, family, and their wider network. When someone follows the link, that shortcode is what lets Ambassador track the referral and create attribution.

You'll need at least one custom share link subdomain to brand the URL. Use the same one across all campaigns, or create different versions for different campaigns.

Example: refer.companydomain.com

Landing Page Domain

Recommended. Only needed if Ambassador is hosting your landing page and you want to brand it.

If you're using an existing page on your website, or building a new one inside your own site or product, you can skip this one. Those pages already live on your domain, so there's no domain needed.

If Ambassador is hosting the page for you, we recommend branding the URL with your own domain. Keep in mind that each Ambassador-hosted landing page needs its own unique landing page domain.

No technical resource available to set up DNS records? No problem. You can still use Ambassador-hosted landing pages on an Ambassador domain. Instead of creating a landing page domain, you'll pick your own prefix, and we'll append the rest. Choose refer as your prefix, for example, and your full URL becomes refer.youraccount.ambassadorpages.com.

Example: enroll.companydomain.com or refer.companydomain.com

Snippet Domain (v3)

Required if you're using Ambassador widgets, the JS API, or the Ads Pixel.

You'll install a snippet code that's custom to your account. Before you install it, create a Snippet v3 subdomain on the same domain where the snippet will live.

The subdomain lets the snippet run as first-party code on your site. That keeps ad blockers and browser privacy protections from interfering, so your widgets load, the JS API tracks referral attribution, and programmatic ad attribution works the way it should.

Example: snippet.companydomain.com

Storefront Domain

Required if you're fulfilling rewards through Storefront.

Advocates visit this link to check their reward balance and redeem, so branding it with your own domain keeps the experience feeling like yours rather than ours.
