Smart Redirects

Smart Redirects lets you automatically send visitors to different landing pages based on who they are and where they're coming from. Instead of routing everyone who clicks a share link to the same page, you can tailor the destination by location, device, or language — creating a more relevant experience right from the first click. 🌍

What Smart Redirects Does

When a visitor clicks a share link, Ambassador detects enrichment signals in real time — their location, device type, and browser language. If a matching Smart Redirect rule exists, the visitor is seamlessly sent to the destination page you've defined. If no rule matches, they land on the default landing page as usual.

Smart Redirects also supports deep linking, which means you can redirect visitors directly into a specific page or screen inside a mobile app rather than a web page.

Common Use Cases

  • Location-based routing — Show dynamic content tailored to a visitor's region or country (e.g., different landing pages for US, UK, and Canada).
  • Franchise routing — Redirect visitors to their nearest franchise location's website based on their geographic location.
  • Device targeting — Send Android users to the Google Play Store and iOS users to the App Store, or into their respective in-app experiences.
  • Language targeting — Direct visitors to a localized version of a page based on their browser language setting.

Before You Start

Make sure you have:

  • At least one active Landing Page already configured in Ambassador
  • The destination pages you want to redirect to are ready and accessible

How to Set Up Smart Redirects

  1. Go to Pages & Widgets → Landing Pages in your Ambassador admin.
  2. Create a new landing page or open an existing one to edit.
  3. Toggle the Smart Redirects option to enable it.
  4. Click to add a new rule. For each rule, define:
    • The signal condition — location, device type, or browser language
    • The destination page — the URL or app deep link to redirect to
  5. Add as many rules as needed for different audience segments.
  6. Save your changes.

How rule matching works: If multiple rules match a visitor's signals, Ambassador applies the most specific matching rule. If no rules match, the visitor is sent to the default landing page.

How It Works (The Full Flow)

  1. A visitor clicks a share link.
  2. Ambassador identifies the visitor's locationdevice, and browser language.
  3. Ambassador checks whether any Smart Redirect rules match those signals.
  4. If a match is found, the visitor is redirected to the destination page for that rule.
  5. If no match is found, the visitor lands on the default landing page.

Good to Know

  • Smart Redirects works at the landing page level — each landing page manages its own set of redirect rules independently.
  • Deep linking (redirecting into a mobile app) is fully supported, making this a useful tool for mobile-first programs.
  • Redirects happen seamlessly — visitors don't see any intermediate steps or loading screens.
