Storefront Rewards Overview
Storefront is Ambassador's no-login redemption experience for advocates. Instead of requiring them to log into a portal, you send advocates a personal redemption link they can click to browse available rewards and choose what they want — whether that's a gift card, PayPal payout, coupon code, or custom item. No account, no hassle. 🎁
How Storefront Works
When you fulfill an advocate's cash or points rewards using Storefront, Ambassador generates a unique, personal redemption link for that advocate. Here's the full flow:
- An advocate earns a reward and it's fulfilled via Storefront automation or manually from the Transactions table.
- Ambassador generates a unique Storefront link for the advocate (or adds to their existing balance if they already have one).
- An Ambassador automation sends the advocate their Storefront link via email or SMS — or, a webhook delivers the link to your system so you can send it through your own channel.
- The advocate clicks their link and browses the reward catalog you've configured.
- They select a reward and redeem it. Ambassador handles delivery (e.g., sending the gift card code).
- The advocate can also view their transaction history from the same link.
Important: No funds are deducted from your balance (including Tango) until the advocate actually redeems their Storefront credit. This means your "Outstanding" balance in the Finance dashboard represents credit that's been issued but not yet redeemed.
What's in the Storefront Catalog
You control what rewards are available in your Storefront. Options include:
- Tango gift cards — Virtual gift cards, prepaid cards, and donations from Tango's catalog (filtered to your account's configured currency)
- PayPal payouts — Direct cash transfers to the advocate's PayPal account
- Coupon codes — Custom codes uploaded to Ambassador
- Shopify gift cards — Available for Shopify Plus stores
- Custom items — Physical products, swag, event tickets, or anything fulfilled outside Ambassador
Storefront vs. Portal Rewards
Unlike Portal Rewards (which require advocates to log in to the Ambassador advocate portal), Storefront uses a direct link — no login required. This makes Storefront ideal for programs where advocates don't have or regularly use a portal account, or where you want to keep the redemption experience as frictionless as possible.
Required Communications
At minimum, you need two email or SMS automations set up for Storefront to work well:
- Storefront Fulfillment Notification — Sent when an advocate's reward is fulfilled. Includes their personal Storefront link, available balance, and expiration date. This tells them their reward is ready.
- Storefront Redemption Delivery Notification — Sent when the advocate redeems their credit for a specific reward (e.g., a gift card). Includes the gift card code or reward details.
Optionally, you can also configure an Unused Reward Reminder — sent when a Storefront credit is unredeemed and approaching its expiration (e.g., 30 days before expiry).
We recommend against using SMS for gift card delivery — gift card details require a lot of text and can exceed SMS length limits. Use email for redemption delivery.
Expiration & Security
Expiration dates are required on Storefront credits (maximum 12 months after issuance). This is both a good practice for managing your financial exposure and a compliance consideration — some state escheatment laws apply to unredeemed rewards older than 12 months.
Two-factor security is optional but strongly recommended. When enabled, advocates must verify their identity before redeeming (a second line of defense against unauthorized redemption). If you choose not to enable 2FA, make sure your team has a protocol for updating the email address on a Storefront account if it's ever compromised.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What gift cards are available in Storefront?
- Any retail gift cards, prepaid cards, and donations that Tango offers in your account's configured currency. You can choose which items to include in your Storefront catalog.
- Do I have to set an expiration date?
- Yes. Expiration is required and must be no more than 12 months from issuance. This limits your financial exposure and helps with state escheatment compliance.
- Can the security question / 2FA be disabled?
- Yes, it's optional. However, without it, anyone who gets access to a valid Storefront link can attempt redemption — they'd still need access to the advocate's email inbox to complete it. We strongly recommend enabling 2FA.
- What if an advocate loses their Storefront link?
- You can resend the email from the Reward/Transactions table. Advocates can also see their past redemptions in the Transactions tab of their Storefront.
- When does the reward get deducted from my funding balance?
- Only when the advocate redeems. Until then, it's tracked as an "Outstanding" balance. Set up low-balance notifications to ensure you always have enough funding available.
- Can I use Storefront for custom items (physical products, swag, etc.)?
- Yes. For custom items, when the advocate selects one in Storefront, a webhook fires to your system so you can process the fulfillment. Ambassador sends the advocate a heads-up notification about how their reward will be delivered.
Good to Know
- If an existing Storefront user earns additional rewards, their new rewards are added to their existing Storefront balance under the same link — they don't get a new link each time.
- Keep an eye on your Outstanding metric in the Finance dashboard — this represents all Storefront credit that's been issued but not yet redeemed, so it's your maximum liability.
- For programs previously using Tango's Choice Link product: with Storefront, Ambassador (not Tango) now sends the redemption delivery email. Make sure your Storefront Redemption Delivery Notification automation is configured before going live.
